As an EDI Project Manager since 2019, Markus Schlaf ensures that our customers' complex business processes are efficiently translated into digital EDI solutions. With a background in IT management and programming, he brings not only deep technical expertise but also a keen sense for practical solutions, especially in logistics. In this interview, Markus talks about his daily work at eddyson, what motivates him, and why team spirit and coffee are essential to him.
"Get up, feed the cats, drink coffee, and then have some more coffee. I usually start my workday by checking my support requests and emails. Then, I jump right into project work for our clients. This involves gathering requirements, working out solutions, handling technical coordination, and advancing EDI integrations. And yes, there is definitely more coffee in between."
"Structure and self-organization are essential, especially when managing several parallel customer projects. You must be able to work independently and reliably within a team. A strong technical foundation is essential, but so is the ability to deeply understand complex topics and find pragmatic solutions."
"Start building a strong network early on through colleagues, forums, and events. Connecting with others is always helpful. Discipline and organization are also important, especially for project-based work. But the most important thing is to enjoy what you do."
"I especially appreciate how colleagues treat one another. Management meets us at eye level, too. If something happens in your personal life, we work together to find a solution. I really value this flexibility, especially since my workday is often challenging due to various projects."
"Project work and client contact. The most exciting moment is when a complex business process is transformed into automated, smoothly functioning EDI communication. Direct client interaction also ensures that no two projects are ever the same."
"I would like to work in first-level support for a day just to see how the team handles such a wide range of challenges. They are the first point of contact for clients, after all. There is a lot going on that project managers usually don't get to see."
"If my head is buzzing, a short break is the best remedy. I just get some fresh air, maybe have a smoke – which I definitely don't recommend as a stress-relief strategy – or chat with a colleague."
"Either relaxing at home or walking around the Göttinger Kiessee. For me, that is the best way to achieve a good work-life balance."
